Engaging civic participation in municipal solutions
Unleashing the expertise of local stakeholders, we supported a cohort of parties and councilors in formulating coherent policy, developed directly by key stakeholders – producing a new bridge between civil society and political life.
Challenge: How can we enable the local expertise of civic stakeholders to co-create climate policy proposals? The organizer, a cohort of political parties, wanted a way to ensure successful collaboration and ideation in a large public policy workshop with participants from diverse backgrounds, demographics and skillsets.
Approach: We delivered a team of facilitators to work closely with breakout-groups of participants, guiding constructive dialogue, and supporting the translation of needs, wishes and experiences into coherent and communicable solutions.
Results: The 100+ participants successfully developed solutions in fields ranging from sustainable transportation and energy to freshwater quality. Civic stakeholders are now better suited to promoting new climate policies, and collaborate with councilors in doing so.
Key: Ensuring every participants’ ability to contribute, regardless of political belief or social status, meant that participants felt encouraged to further engage in collaboration.
