Pretotyping for circularity

Sectors: Events, networking

Services: Community building, workshop design, facilitation, pretotyping

Year: 2020

Open pretotyping for circular development

Accessible idea-to-action and playful development, we provided Waterkant with a festival-friendly pretotyping space for walk-in guests and partners to explore and experiment with ideas for contributing towards a compelling, circular festival experience.

Challenge: “How can we reap the insights of guests and partners for a circular festival?”. Waterkant was looking for ways to engage stakeholders in imagining new developments, and understanding their key needs, in order to identify circular initiatives that are both effective and contribute to stakeholder satisfaction.

Approach: We worked with core partners to fast-forward high-level ideas into pretotypes that visualize and enliven the effect each idea could achieve. During the event, we designed and hosted a pretotyping space, enabling guests to interact with and qualify existing ideas, and even chip in with otherwise overlooked opportunities.

Results: Waterkant was able to strengthen relations with stakeholders, while acquiring practical insight for circular initiatives. Not only did organizers express increased agency and support for new initiatives, guests and contributors said they experienced the festival as more action-oriented and co-creative. This way, the bold and compelling initiatives gained increased mutual backing.

Key: A rapid and accessible interaction was key to create traction for enlivened proposals in this fast-paced environment.
