Participatory strategy creation

Client: Extinction Rebellion Denmark (XR DK)

Collaboration and direction in decentralized social movement

Building the foundation for distributed collaboration, we worked with XRDK to strengthen participation and buy-in from local groups across the country towards a principled working culture and the development of a cohesive national strategy.

Challenge: How can we make initiative and cohesion two sides of the same coin? XR was in need of a way to organize a growing number of distributed, decentralized local groups towards a cohesive national strategy, while ensuring enough independence for groups to practice their initiative and creativity.

Approach: We helped strengthen the sense of possibility and agency, by identifying strengths to develop and weaknesses to be mindful of. This aided breaking the high-level vision into relevant, timely objectives and allowed local groups to commit to actionable initiatives in their respective contexts.

Results: XR has empowered members to develop a cohesive and culturally anchored strategy, that is understood by all members in each of their own contexts. This way, XR has leaped towards the best of both worlds – a distributed, flexible movement with a strong, shared direction.
