Climate Action Lab:
Engaging user-driven initiatives

Client: Kaospilot

Sectors: Higher education

Services: Co-creation, workshop design, facilitation, project management

Year: 2020

From awareness to action for carbon neutrality

Leveraging in-house resources to address emerging expectations, we worked with Kaospilot to raise engagement among students and staff in generating possibilities to inform climate mitigation strategy and democratize action mandate.

Challenge:How can we together develop and launch specific proposals and self-driven initiatives?”. Kaospilot was looking for a way to create engagement across the institution, manifesting strategiuc aims by leveraging in-house competences – change and project leadership – towards sustainable impact.

Approach: We worked closely with staff and students to identify the most impactful arenas for change. Through a participatory Climate Action Lab, students and staff collaboratively identified, developed and teamed up around new initiatives.

Results: 60+ participants articulated 20 possible initiatives to implement covering five focus areas, and further went on to formulate an institution-wide policy. Importantly, participants expressed a significant increase in their own sense of agency to create an institution better suited to deliver sustainable outcomes.

Key: This opportunity-oriented approach enabled students and staff to take initiative and ownership for specific initiatives towards achieving strategic goals.
