When projects are viewed individually, important relations and tensions often remain hidden. A portfolio approach helps reveal synergies, overlaps, and blind spots, as well as initiatives that operate on different time horizons or levels of uncertainty. By making these relationships visible, organisations can move from reactive coordination to deliberate prioritisation. This strengthens coherence across efforts and supports clearer decision-making about where to invest attention, adjust course, or let go. The aim is not uniformity, but a better sense of direction across complexity.

Initiatives are explored and mapped collectively in facilitated sensemaking sessions that bring together relevant perspectives. Visualisation using paper or virtual collaborative tools are used as a shared foundation, allowing patterns and relationships to emerge through dialogue rather than analysis alone. The process creates space to discuss intent, contribution, and interaction between initiatives. Over time, this supports shared understanding and more informed strategic decision-making, helping to navigate complexity without losing touch with reality.
